Antesthi Samskaar - Funeral Rites

  1. At the agency early in the morning the body of the departed should be washed with dahee, milk and water with tulsi leaves. Kush grass and gobar should be placed at the base of the box (concealed).
  2. The head should beshaved for those conducting the rituals (shrotas). Garud Puran Ch.10, vs. 4 (sons, grandsons).
  3. Spot reserved to place the coffin at the home should be leepayed with gobar, kush grass and black till should be sprinkled over the area.

  • Camphor / Essence / Insence / Matches

  • Deeyas / 5 Kalsaas (no pari)

  • Lotas / Thalis

  • Flowers / Malaa

  • 2 1/2 yds. White cotton

  • 5 pucharaas / 2 Jhandis

  • Ghee / Googool / Rice for hawan

  • Bottle of water

  • Cutlass

Back home at front door

  • Fire sticks

  • Cutlass

  • Channa (boiled)

  • Gobar

  • Doob grass

  • Hardi

Keep Satsangh on evenings, keep deeya on kalsaa lighting. Offer pindaa and tarpan by the kush every day.
